(A THERAPEUTIC STORY OF A JOURNEY THROUGH ILLNESS)
Once upon a time, in a land embraced by rolling hills and whispering trees, there lived a young artist named Kira. Kira had always been full of life, her laughter echoing through the meadows as she danced with butterflies and sang with the birds. She wrote poems- that spoke about the beauty in this world with all its irony and idiosyncrasies. She revelled stringing words into a necklace so delicate and beautiful
But one day, a dark shadow fell upon her path.Â
It started with a small ache in her chest, barely noticeable at first. Kira brushed it off, attributing it to the adventures that had filled her days. Yet, as days turned into weeks, the ache grew stronger, and soon it became too persistent to ignore. She could not write her poems anymore- the words were drying out and the empty pages stared back at her. With a heavy heart, Kira sought the guidance of the wise old healer who lived atop the tallest hill.
The healer, a gentle soul with eyes as deep as the ocean, listened to Kira's story with care. She nodded knowingly, as if she had already glimpsed the path ahead.
"My dear," she said softly, "life is a journey filled with twists and turns. Sometimes, we encounter shadows that seem daunting and unknown. But every journey holds a lesson, and every shadow, a secret waiting to be uncovered."
With those words, the healer sent Kira on a journey unlike any she had embarked upon before. It was a journey through valleys of uncertainty and peaks of hope, where each step brought new challenges and revelations. Along the way, Kira met fellow travellers – some struggling with their own shadows, others shining brightly with resilience.
As she travelled, Kira's understanding deepened. The unknown illness caused her to say and do things that were unlike her. She could not understand all of her shudders and shakes. The blue skies were turning grey in her eyes. And what she had never experienced much before, loomed its head before her: fear. Fear of the present, and the dark hole of an unpredictable future.Â
Uncertainty lingered like mist in the early morning. Kira wondered what the future held – would the path ahead lead to healing or more shadows?Â
Some nights, the shadows grew darker, more ominous and scary. On other nights, she rested well only to face the shadows lurking in the corner in the daytime.Â
The healer, sensing her turmoil, spoke gently one evening as they sat beneath a canopy of stars.
"Dear Kira," the healer began, her voice soft yet steady, "the future is a tapestry woven from the threads of our own choices and experiences. While we cannot change the past, or predict its every twist, we can choose how we journey through it. Embrace each moment with courage and grace, for in doing so, you shape your own destiny."
With those words, Kira felt a shift within her soul. She realised that the true journey was not about reaching a specific destination, but about finding peace and purpose in each step. The shadows that once loomed large now seemed smaller, their edges softened by the light of newfound wisdom. The wisdom said that she could traverse this period through acceptance and accountability rather than blame.Â
She learned that the illness that clouded her path was not a barrier, but a part of her journey. It taught her patience when the road seemed endless, and gratitude for each sunrise that painted the sky. Through tears and laughter, she discovered a strength she never knew she possessed.
Months passed, and Kira's journey continued. She faced setbacks and triumphs, moments of doubt and moments of clarity. Through it all, she held onto the healer's words like a compass guiding her through stormy seas. And as the seasons turned, Kira found herself standing once more before the healer, who smiled knowingly.
"My dear," the healer said, "you have travelled far and grown wise beyond your years. The journey through illness has not defined you, but has revealed the strength and resilience within. Maybe some parts of the earlier you don’t exist anymore, however with whatever resources you had, you have been transformed.Â
Remember, every ending is a new beginning, and every challenge, an opportunity for growth."
With a heart overflowing with gratitude, Kira thanked the healer and turned towards the horizon. The future still held uncertainties, but she knew she would face it with a newfound courage and a deep understanding that her journey, though filled with twists and turns, had led her exactly where she needed to be – a place of inner peace and acceptance, ready to embrace whatever lay ahead.
She decided to celebrate the small stuff, notice the pauses, the glimmers, the good days. And on the not so-good days, she braved through, and knew that these moments would pass. She believed in herself and her own innate strength to pull through.Â
And so, Kira continued her journey, her laughter once again echoing through the meadows as she danced with butterflies and sang with the birds, carrying with her the wisdom of a journey well-travelled and a heart full of hope. Her artist self began to create once again - poems from her soul. These poems healed her and many around her as well. It was going to be a long road to recovery yet, but she had faith and patience to see herself through it all.Â
